
 
 
New wales (horizontal timbers) have been attached to the seaward side of the old structure. The dense sand must be excavated so the 12 foot long sheeting can be driven into place. Despite freezing wind and tidal water, the tongue-in-groove sheeting is placed with a precision of better than 3/8 inch. 
 
 
 
Cement will fill the void between the old bulkhead, which has done its duty, and the new one, which we hope will last for forty years.
