The old house stood on cinder blocks that sat on the sand. Because it is in a velocity zone, FEMA regulations required us to elevate it above potential floods. Because it contributes to the Historic District, we decided to provide the sturdier support that code required by elevating the house enough to pour new concrete footings under it.
 
 
 
 
 
In early October, 2002 it was raised a few feet higher than that to allow placement of tubes into which concrete will be poured. The plastic feet are buried with the cardboard tubes sticking up above the sand.
The century-old house is fragile...
